Privacy Policy

What we collect
TrueVote collects only what you voluntarily provide:
- Email address — if you create an account or sign up for updates. Sign-in uses emailed magic links; we never store a password. We use your email only to sign you in and send the updates you requested.
- Subscription status — if you upgrade to Pro, payment is processed entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number; we keep only your subscription status and a Stripe customer reference.
- Watchlist & preferences — candidates you choose to follow and settings you pick (state, issues, email frequency), used only to build your alerts and briefs.
- Values Matcher answers — stored only if you are signed in and explicitly click “Save my matches.” They are used solely to tailor your own briefs, are never shared with anyone, and can be deleted in one click from your account page.
- Search queries — candidate names you search may be logged temporarily for debugging and performance monitoring. These are not linked to individuals.
What we don't do
- We do not sell your data to anyone — and political-preference data (like Values Matcher answers) will never be sold, shared, or used for advertising, full stop
- We do not share your email with political campaigns, parties, or PACs
- We do not use tracking pixels, behavioral ad networks, or data brokers
- We do not build advertising profiles — anything you save exists only to tailor your own experience, and you can delete it anytime
Analytics
We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how the site is used — for example, which candidate pages are most visited. Any analytics we use are configured without cross-site tracking and do not fingerprint individual users.
Data from public sources
The candidate and financial data on TrueVote comes entirely from public federal databases (FEC, Congress.gov, Senate EFTS). This information is already public — we aggregate and present it in a readable format. We do not augment public records with private data.
Your rights
If you have provided your email address and would like it removed from our database, email us at the address on our contact pagewith the subject line “Delete my data.” We will remove it within 5 business days and confirm.
Security
Email addresses are stored in an encrypted database with access restricted to TrueVote team members. We use industry-standard TLS encryption for all data transmission.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above. We will not retroactively apply new data practices to information collected under a previous policy.
